Ive always known I was going to be a successful person and make my dreams happen; not just talk about it.
Those are the words that drove Flint, Michigan native Raven Nova to pack up her bags and move out the land of dreams, Los Angeles, California to become a famous dancer, actor/director/producer and singer. A better life has always been in the cards for Raven Nova. Growing up with a single mom, Raven Nova and her two other siblings would eventually be adopted when their young mother could no longer offer them the life she wanted. Placed into an abusive adoptive home, Raven Nova and her sisters were challenged to be strong and believe that anything that they dreamed of they could achieve by never settling or less.
Never one to be afraid to reach for the stars even while still in junior high school, a teenaged Raven Nova penned a letter to the late Lisa Left Eye Lopez and to her surprise she called her personally! I didnt think she would get my letter, let alone actually call me, recalls Raven Nova. Giving Raven Nova words of encouragement, Left Eye made an indelible impression on the young mogul in the making. Those words compelled Raven Nova to study hard at her craft of acting, dancing and singing.
Taking a page straight out of the movie Fame, Raven was enrolled in a performing arts high school that readied her to be the multiple threat she always knew she would be.
Honing her skills at Creative Expressions Dance Studio in Flint, Michigan, Raven Nova worked hard to perfect her talents. Filled with determination to conquer all obstacles in her way, in the late 90s Raven set her sights on Hollywood, California.
Beating the odds with support from friends and mentors like football icon Jim Brown and his wife Monique and Big Chan (Chan Gaines) of Snoop Doggs all girl group Doggys Angels, Raven Nova was on her way to making her name in the big city.
Following the career of award-winning rapper and actress Mc Lyte, Raven Nova credits her as one of her primary influences. She speaks the truth in her songs, shes a great MC and I have had the pleasure to meet and talk to her on several occasions. She was a real kind-hearted person who took the time to talk to me and give me incredible advice. I will never forget that, recalls Raven Nova.
Skills coupled with unrelenting determination paid off and this multi-hyphenate began to consistently book dance gigs on major networks including MTV, BET and various international entities. The hip-hop dancer was making a name for herself and the industry was starting to take notice. I strive to be creative through my dancing and I have truly been inspired by choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson, says Raven Nova.
With a growing fan base and from her appearances in music videos and appearances dancing on Dance 360, Club Comic View and Source Sound Lab, just to name a few; Raven Nova shows no signs of slowing down.
As an entrepreneur, I thought the time was right to broaden my reach and launch my own independent film company, Nova Ray Productions where I am currently producing independent films including Stick Wit it, Camera Girl and the soon-to-be-released Suite 100 to be featured on her website, www.novarayimage.com.
Celebrities like actress Mari Morrow, rap artist Yo Yo, singer and actor Raz B (formerly of B2K) and his brother Ricky Romance have graced the screen in Raven Nova-helmed productions.
The sky is the limit for Raven Nova!
